3 Best Wii U Emulators Of 2022

When the Wii U came out it got a bit of a bad rap. That’s pretty much a step that took us from the Wii to the Nintendo Switch, and that means we should all salute him instead of slagging him on the back!
I had one of these when it first came out, sold it before I went on a trip, and recently bought another one to replay Windwalker and Twilight Princess in HD. But, if you don’t have a Wii U, then there are some ways you can play these games on your laptop or PC.
There are only three programs in this list of the best Wii U emulators. Like some other emulator list we wrote for the new console, it’s still very early days.
Also, only one of the programs listed below is open source, so people don’t have a lot of code manipulation to build their own programs behind them.
However, here is our list of the best Wii U emulators for you to play Wii U games right now and some information on how emulators work for newcomers to the scene.

1. Semu

Cemu is undoubtedly the best Cemu Roms on the internet. Any program that sees Mario Kart 8 running on 8K and BOTW running on 4K is a definite winner, and Cemu is constantly improving month by month.

At Retro Dodo there are many emulator open source programs we have covered here that are capable of being updated by other users. Cemu, however, is a closed source. This means he has a dedicated team of people who update the program on a fortnightly basis.

When BOTW first came out for the Wii U, the Cemu Patreon page was earning about $ 22,000 a month. How much people wanted this thing to play the new Zelda adventure!

Regular readers know how much I like good websites when it comes to emulation. If it contains a lot of information and FAQs, I’m on board right away.

The Cemu website is nice and has a well-organized compatibility list that shows which games work well and which still have issues.

The most important thing to remember with Semu is that it is an ongoing project. It works fine now, but the developers are constantly working to ensure it gets stronger, so keep checking for updates and support the cause.

2. Decaf

Open source Windows, Linux

It may be the first Wii U emulator on the scene, but Decaf ranks # 2 on this list of the best Wii U emulators of all time!
Good news for Linux users; decaf works on both Windows and Linux. It is a trusted program that is also starting to deliver excellent results.
As an open source program, it does not have the same financial support as Semu. This emulator has all the makings to make something great and is slowly caching with Cemu, but in terms of compatibility and user experience it still has a way to go before it matches everyone’s favorite Wii U emulator.
Bugs happen frequently and the list of compatible games is small, but things are moving.
The more people download Decaf and pitch with its development, the faster this community-run program will reach the big leagues.

3. Nintendo eSHOP

OK, we’ve redesigned the thing where we put the paid app or the emulator at the end of the article, but listen to us.
This is a great way to play Wii U games on your TV and in handheld mode, on an updated console, without experiencing a leg or frame rate drop.
And, it’s 100% legal, so you don’t have to worry about Doug Bowser and the real Bowser knocking on your door at midnight. They will feed you chain chomp without a second thought!
There are a number of Wii U games available on the Switch, including Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3 and the ones I mentioned above.
No, it’s not free and you can’t play Torn ROM of your own games, but these titles are probably the only way you can guarantee a flawless gaming experience without any fuss!
How does the emulator work?
Do you know how Bilbo turns the forest ring and disappears? It’s still the same hobby, but you can’t see it. Well, an emulator program is invisible, but it makes your computer think it’s a hobby.
… Wait, that’s not right.
The emulator makes your PC or laptop look like a games console. They digitally recreate the internal gibbons of your SNES, Nintendo 3DS or Dreamcast, creating virtual wires and chips that mimic the original console.
The emulator looks like iTunes. It is a program called PLA
